Denn

I have worked for decades in the private and public sectors to advocate for people whose voices are not being heard.

Overview

Matt Denn is a litigator who has also served the State of Delaware in a number of appointed and elected positions. Matt previously worked as a litigation partner with one of the world’s largest law firms, and before that served as Delaware’s Attorney General (where he filed one of the nation’s first state lawsuits against the opioid industry), Lieutenant Governor, and Insurance Commissioner. Matt began his career working for Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, representing families who needed legal representation but could not afford attorneys.

Matt has litigated in every court in the State of Delaware, including the Delaware Supreme Court, Delaware Court of Chancery, Delaware Superior Court (including its Complex Commercial Litigation Docket), U.S. District Court, and U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

As Delaware’s Attorney General, Matt oversaw over 100 attorneys statewide, including attorneys dedicated to protecting Delawareans from consumer fraud and securities law violations. Matt led a coalition of amicus State Attorneys General who argued in support of children with disabilities in the United States Supreme Court’s Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District case.  As Attorney General, Matt also launched an investigation into the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington regarding potential past incidents of sexual abuse.

As Delaware’s Insurance Commissioner, Matt drafted one of the strongest early state laws limiting the ability of insurers to use individuals’ credit scores to set insurance rates. Matt is also very involved in the community in Delaware in roles protecting the interests of vulnerable children. Matt serves as the co-chair of the Redding Consortium for Educational Equity, a state statutory body responsible for making recommendations to improve outcomes for children in high-poverty schools, and as the co-founder and vice chair of Action for Delaware’s Children, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit children’s advocacy organization.
