Grant

Being a securities fraud litigator is important to me because it allows me to fight for investors and hold large corporations accountable for their misconduct.  Due to the great resources these corporations have, often we’re the only ones who can—or the only ones who will.  It is especially rewarding when our case filings inspire the government to act, or even when they simply put the public on notice of the types of corporate misconduct that can and do occur.

Overview

Kyla Grant focuses her practice on federal securities fraud class actions, securities enforcement, and complex commercial litigation in both federal and state courts.

While most of her experience has been on plaintiff’s side securities fraud matters, time spent at defense firms early in her career gave Kyla a useful understanding of numerous defense tactics and weaknesses, which she continues to use to her clients’ advantage to this day.

Over the course of her career, Kyla has played a key role on litigation teams that have successfully recovered hundreds of millions of dollars on behalf of injured shareholders. In one such case, Peace Officers’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Georgia et al. v. DaVita Inc., et al., Kyla helped to recover $135 million in a case alleging a company had improperly “steered” end-stage kidney patients off of Medicare/Medicaid and into private insurance plans in order to inflate its bottom line.

Along with her exceptional writing skills and ability to craft a compelling narrative for a judge, perhaps Kyla’s biggest differentiator and strength is how deeply she dives into her cases. For every case, she ensures that she knows the defendant-company inside and out. In fact, she strives to know the defendant-company’s business better than even their own counsel does so that, whether at a hearing or in a mediation, she will never be caught off guard.

Before joining Grant & Eisenhofer, Kyla was a Director at Saxena White. Earlier in her career, she litigated securities matters at Shearman & Sterling LLP and WilmerHale.

No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man’s permission when we require him to obey it.

Outside the Office

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my children, who are twins, as well as in creative outlets like singing and songwriting. I also enjoy acting and improv, which are similar to being a litigator due to the inner conviction required to convey a powerful and compelling narrative that can impact others.
