Sangree

I am energized by obtaining redress for state and local government entities that have been harmed by corporate malfeasance. I know my colleagues feel the same way, and that’s why we’re here.

Overview

A government and public interest lawyer by training and at heart, Suzanne Sangree transitioned to private practice only upon discovering a law firm that shared her mission—to help state and local governments pursue accountability and compensation, on behalf of their residents, for serious environmental and consumer protection wrongs.

Suzanne came to G&E after 13 years with the City of Baltimore Department of Law where, as a director, she established the City’s first formal Affirmative Litigation Program. Under her guidance, the City systematically sued large corporate and federal government entities for violations of environmental, constitutional, consumer, patent, antitrust, False Claims Act and other laws preventing grant cuts or other harmful federal policies; and achieved significant returns for Baltimore residents. She also held roles as Senior Public Safety Counsel/Chief, Police Legal Affairs Division and Chief Solicitor & Director of Training, and served as a member of the Settlement Committee and Executive Committee.

When partnering with outside counsel to bring these cases, Suzanne appreciated that Grant & Eisenhofer never over-stepped, always respecting the City’s need to retain ultimate control over cases, strategy, and media statements.

With her keen understanding of municipal priorities, pressures, and operations, Suzanne now helps other state and local government entities explore the potential benefits of an affirmative litigation strategy, and to find and develop meritorious cases. Given recent cutbacks in federal government enforcement, she relishes being able to vastly increase the capacity of under-resourced municipalities to pursue corporate accountability, and for her clients to get credit for going to bat for their constituents.

Outside the Office

To relax on my down time, I whack balls—squash, tennis, ping pong, whatever. It is how I exercise and maintain sanity.  I speak Spanish and love to travel, most recently exploring Buenos Aires. I treasure kayak camping and tromping the trails of Maryland, West Virginia, Vermont, Washington, Colorado, Alaska—wherever I meet family and friends.
